Construction & Contractors Blog

Are you looking to buy a commercial or residential property? Buying property can be a costly but significant investment. Therefore, it's always best to ensure everything is done correctly to ensure you get the most value for your money. For instance, building inspections are among the most crucial procedures to consider when buying property. As the name implies, they entail several checks on a building to determine its true conditions. Typically, information from these inspections will help you understand any potential dangers or hazards on the building, which is crucial in identifying the required repairs early enough. In addition, knowing the true condition of a building can give you a bargaining opportunity on the property. However, building inspections involve several aspects, and here is everything you need to know.

Different Types of Building Inspections Exist

Building inspections come in many different forms, and knowing the nature of the inspection you want is crucial. That's because it will help you hire a business inspector with the right expertise for the job. For instance, do you want a building pest inspection? Such an inspection will be different from a typical pre-purchase or general building inspection, and you will need a building inspector with expertise in pest tracking. Therefore, understand what you need first to hire the right building inspector.

Inspections Cover Several Aspects

Every building inspection is unique. However, building inspectors tend to focus on certain areas that may be similar regardless of the nature of the inspection. For instance, the building inspectors may check your heating, electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, ventilation and mechanical systems.

They may also inspect your building's interior and exterior to determine its structural soundness and whether it conforms with the existing building codes. Therefore, expect them to check your floors, roofing, wall structures, landscaping, parking lots etc. At the end of the inspection, a building inspector will provide you with an inspection report detailing the inspection's findings and any recommendations for managing or handling any identified safety-related hazards and risks.

Follow-Up Support Is Essential

Not every building inspector offers post-inspection services. Others do it for free, while others have extra charges for this additional support. Post-inspection services may entail taking you through the findings and answering any questions you might have. This follow-up support is important, especially if you are new to building inspections. Therefore, it's imperative to ask beforehand to ensure you understand if follow-up support is offered and what it covers.

Extending the patio

When we moved into the house we had a really cute patio, but it was so small that if more than two people wanted to share a meal or sit together there wasn't room. That's why I have been extending the patio and working on ways to make it more hospitable for the whole family to spend time out there, such as getting the music system to connect to some speakers in the structure. This blog has some tips for homeowners who are looking to attempt a patio renovation or extension and has some tips on which jobs to DIY and when to call in the professionals.
